Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman in Zambia. Some of the top companies owned and lead by Dr. Mahtani include Mahtani Group of Companies and Finsbury Investments. He is also known for his several philanthropic and charitable activities. In the year 2007, Dr. Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments received 58 percent shareholding stake of the Portland Cement Zambia, a cement-manufacturing factory. It was a strategic move made by the original shareholders of the Portland Cement and an official shareholding agreement instrument was established for completing the transfer of shares. Claim From The Ventriglia Family Dismissed By Supreme Court Bench

The final decision from the Supreme Court Zambia on the claim by the Ventriglia family not only prevented another major controversy at the hands of the Zambian legal system, but also showcased the strength, endurance and transparency of the Zambian court. It can be said that after the misdirected decision by judge Nkonde at the Lusaka High Court on the Zambezi Portland Cement case, the people of Zambian started losing faith at the Zambian legal system. Supreme Court Zambia Announces Its Final Decision On Challenge By The Ventriglias

The Supreme Court Zambia recently gave its final decision on the appeal by the Ventriglias. The Ventriglia family recently made a bizarre decision in which they challenged the verdict of the higher Court of Appeal on the Portland Cement Zambia case. This verdict was given by justice Mwinde on behalf of the higher Court of Appeal on 31st January 2019. According to this verdict, Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments holds 58 percent shares at the Portland Cement Zambia factory and is the majority shareholder as well as legal owner of the factory. On the other hand, the Ventriglias’ owned Ital Terrazzo Limited holds just 42 percent shares of the Portland Cement factory and do not have any legal ownership. Furthermore, judge Mwinde also confirmed the amount payable against the majority shares which was K580,000 as against K580 million demanded by the Ventriglias.
