Claim From The Ventriglia Family Dismissed By Supreme Court Bench

The final decision from the Supreme Court Zambia on the claim by the Ventriglia family not only prevented another major controversy at the hands of the Zambian legal system, but also showcased the strength, endurance and transparency of the Zambian court. It can be said that after the misdirected decision by judge Nkonde at the Lusaka High Court on the Zambezi Portland Cement case, the people of Zambian started losing faith at the Zambian legal system. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani waited for more than a decade for Lusaka High Court to give a fair and transparent judgement. Despite this wait, the Lusaka High Court judge announced Ventriglias as the only shareholders of the Portland Cement.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani still hoped for justice and immediately approached the Court of Appeal with his claim about the injustice at the Lusaka High Court. This time, his appeal was heard and judge Nkonde on behalf of the higher Court of Appeal announced Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani as the majority shareholder and legal owner of the Portland Cement Zambia factory. Finsbury Investments under the leadership of Dr. Rajan Mahtani was awarded 58 percent shares at the factory and was identified as legal owner.

Even after this concrete decision, the Ventriglia family decided to claim against the verdict by approaching the Supreme Court Zambia. However, the Supreme Court is above reproach and a bench was established for evaluating the claim and give a fair verdict. The SC bench came to the conclusion that the claim by the Ventriglias was not only unethical, it was invalid. As a result, the Supreme Court effectively dismissed this claim from the Ventriglias.
