Zambian President praised for his bold decision towards death penalty

Zambian President, at the occasion of Africa Day, made a stunning announcement. President Hakainde Hichilema announced his quest for abolishing death penalty row. The President termed death penalty as an archaic law that does not maintain any importance or value in modern-day society. This assertion from the Zambian President obtained substantial support from throughout the Zambia, such as stated businessman and philanthropist Dr.Rajan Mahtani. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, while assisting the announcement made via the Zambian President, said that the practice of death penalty or capital punishment does no longer provide any answer for the Zambian Government. In truth, majority of the past Presidents have tried to keep away from the capital punishment strategically or through using mercy prerogatives. The last capital punishment in Zambia was in the year 1997 and since then, Presidents have tactically averted death penalty as it has become too debatable. This is all of the extra relevant considering the increasing consciousness and voice towards completely abolishing the death penalty row. Another cause for helping this statement from President Hakainde is the condition of the Zambian prisons that's extraordinarily degrading, pathetic and perilous. The prisoners across those prisons are often without fundamental human dignity and essential human rights. Following this, the Zambian Government has collaborated with institutes which include the Parole Board Zambia (PBZ) and Zambian Correctional Facilities (ZCF) for strategic decongestion of the prisoners. In such a scenario, giving death punishment or capital punishment does not offer any meaningful stance.

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani also praised Zambian President Hakainde as he's the only President who've made real efforts closer to removing this archaic and inhumane law from the Zambian government.
