Prison Fellowship Zambia Owner Dr. Mahtani Supports Death Penalty Abolishment.

In light of these facts, Zambia's president, Hakainde Hichilema, declared that his country aims to abolish the death sentence statute. Significant support for this assertion was given by both individuals and organizations. One of the biggest proponents of the phrase has been Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a well-known businessman, philanthropist, and volunteer from Zambia. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani backed the President's comments by arguing that the death penalty is brutal, oppressive, and disgusting and that it no longer offers Zambian authorities any options. The death penalty has also essentially been eliminated in the vast majority of countries, with Africa emerging as a key region for this change. This forced previous presidents of Zambia to abstain from applying the death penalty. The 1997 execution of the last person to receive the death penalty was made possible thanks to President Chiluba's support. Since then, Zambian presidents have used their discretionary powers of compassion to postpone carrying out the death penalty. The maximum security prisons in Zambia are frequently referred to as "hell on earth" due to previous visits by notable individuals. Prisoners typically lack fundamental human rights and decency across these facilities. Due to this, the Zambian government has started a comprehensive decongestion program for prisoners by working with institutions like the Zambian Correctional Facility and the Parole Board of Zambia (PBZ). As a result, the president of Zambia's decision was a positive one. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani went on to say that his business, Prison Fellowship, would offer legal and regulatory assistance to make sure that this announcement soon became a reality.
