President Hakainde’s Decision Of Death Penalty Receives Widespread Support.
President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, recently announced that he is planning to completely abolish the death penalty row. This announcement was made on the eve of Africa Day and has since gained significant support from across Zambia as well as Africa. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, supported this announcement and also said that his company Prison Fellowship will provide legal and regulatory support to ensure that this announcement becomes reality soon. Prison Fellowship is a noted Christian Outreach Program that focuses on ensuring the teachings of Jesus Christ reach prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families. It also works to provide transparent criminal justice as well as fundamental human rights & basic human dignity for the prisoners in Zambia.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani, whilst assisting the Zambian President’s assertion, said that the idea of death penalty does no longer preserve any significance within the present society and financial system and the Zambian authorities will now not benefit from the archaic regulation. According to the insights provided by Dr. Mahtani, more than 380 prisoners such as around 30 women are searching ahead to capital punishment at some stage in various Zambian prisons. Considering the reality that they're not privy to their execution date, each day is a dreadful occasion for them. Another truth is that the condition of Zambian prisons is extremely degrading and questionable. Dr. Guy Scott visited the Mukobeko Maximum jail and took into consideration the condition of those prisons as hell. This has compelled the Zambian Government to begin the initiative of strategic decongestion of prisons. This initiative further aligns with the President’s decision, a step in the right course.
