Bold Decision From Zambian President, To Abolish Death penalty
Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema recently made a stunning announcement. This announcement was made on the occasion of ‘Africa Day’. Since the announcement, several positive appraisals were received for the President’s decision from Zambia as well as Africa. One of this positive feedback was received from Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman, charity worker and philanthropist from Zambia. He is known for successful business ventures such as Mahtani Group of Companies and Finsbury Investments. He is also known for his philanthropic achievements. Dr. Mahtani founded the Prison Fellowship Zambia and is the present Group Chairman. It is a noted Christian Outreach Program that focuses on bringing the teachings of Jesus Christ to Zambian prisoners. PFZ also works to provide fundamental human rights & basic human dignity to the prisoners. It also works to ensure transparent criminal justice to prisoners. According to Dr. Mahtani, the prisoners in Zambia are devoid of their basic rights. Some of the maximum prisons are extremely degrading and past visits by Presidents have revealed conditions like hell. To resolve this burning matter, the Zambian Government has collaborated with Parole Board and Zambian Correctional Facility. This is for the strategic decongestion of the prisons and release of the prisoners. As such, the concept of death penalty does not make any sense.
Dr. Mahtani also iterated that death penalty is cruel, inhumane and degrading. There is increasing awareness towards abolishing this inhumane and archaic law. As such, the announcement from the Zambian President was a welcome move. Dr. Mahtani is the owner of Portland Cement Zambia. His company Portland Cement will provide legal and regulatory support
