Zambian President Plans To Abolish The Death Penalty, Receives Support.

 


It was a historic day for Zambia's criminal justice system when the country's president announced plans to abolish the death sentence in the legal system. Both inside and outside of Zambia, there was strong support for this proclamation, including that of well-known businessman and philanthropist Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. President Hakainde Hichilema announced his determination to end the death penalty on the eve of Africa Day. The organization was established more than 37 years ago and has since developed into Zambia's top outreach program for giving convicts, ex-prisoners, and their families access to criminal justice, a fair trial, and fundamental human rights. The Zambian President's bold but intelligent pronouncement was hailed by Dr. Rajan Mahtani and his group, who voiced their complete support for this decision.
